More than 100 historical photos from the estate of the Orientalist Johann Gottfried Wetzstein (1815 - 1905) of the Wetzstein Foundation, which is kept in the Berlin State Library.
The photographs are largely from J. Andre Garrigues, who ran a photo studio in Tunis from about 1870 to 1890. They are landscape and architectural photographs from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and Spain, as well as of various ethnic groups and well-known personalities, e.g., the African explorer Georg August Schweinfurth (1836-1925) or the young, deceased ethnologist Max Quedenfeldt (1851-1891).
